Work With Me

Let’s make your book look like it deserves to be read.

You’ve put in the work. The manuscript is written, the story is real, and now it needs a cover that stops someone mid-scroll and an interior that keeps them turning pages. That’s where I come in.

I’m John Edgar, a book designer with nearly thirty years of experience. I work with Christian authors, independent writers, and small publishers who want their books to look professionally published because they are.

What I do

I offer full-service book design through my studio at johnedgar.design, including:

Book cover design for print and ebook, the kind that works on a bookstore shelf at noon and an Amazon page at midnight.

Interior layout and typesetting so your reader never notices the design, they just never want to put it down.

Ebook conversion formatted for KDP, IngramSpark, and beyond.

Publishing support for authors navigating the self-publishing process for the first time, or the fifth.

What it costs

I believe professional design should be within reach for the working author. Here’s where projects generally start:

  • Full book design, novel or memoir, starting at $750.
  • Full book design, nonfiction or complex layout, starting at $1,150.
  • Cover design only, print and ebook, starting at $450.
  • Interior layout with ebook conversion, starting at $400.
  • Standalone ebook conversion, starting at $100.

Every project is a conversation. If you’re not sure what you need, that’s exactly what the consultation call is for.

What happens on the call

The consultation is free, about thirty minutes, and there’s no pressure. Here’s what we actually talk about:

Where you are in the process and what you’ve already done. What your goals are for the finished book, whether that’s a trade published title or a small run heirloom piece for your family. Your timeline. I generally suggest starting design work about two months before your desired publication date, and most projects take about a month from manuscript to final files.

And then I listen to a little bit of your story. Why you wrote it. What it means to you. That part matters more than you might think, because a cover and interior that matches your voice is worth more than one that just looks pretty.

Everything we talk about is yours to walk away with whether we work together or not. What matters to me is your story getting told. Even if I’m not the one doing the work.
